It’s the second week of school and hopefully everyone is settling into their routine here at NVC. Last week we highlighted the three service desks located here in the library: Circulation, Reference and Computer. Today let’s discuss information you can find on the NVC Library home page.
You can find our home page by clicking on the Library tab located just to the right of the Northwest Vista College main page.
On the left side of the page you will find quick links for many of our services, the library catalog and databases, and library policies.
In the center of the page you will find our most popular links divided into four sections: Library Catalog, Databases, Research Help and Library Services.
Library Catalog: Search for books, eBooks, DVDs and browse newly purchased items. The “My Library Account” link will let you see what materials you have checked out, any fines or holds and let you renew any items you currently have.
Database-Articles & more: Need a peer-reviewed article? How about an image, musical score or streaming video? Our databases cover a variety of subjects and carry a wide range of resources you can use for your assignments. Just click and explore.
Research Help: The Research Guides are a great place to start your research. Each guide focuses on a specific subject and includes links to our catalog, the most relevant databases and credible websites. You will also see tips to help you get started.
The library modules are quick and informative videos and quizzes that teach you researching skills, critical thinking and about using library resources. Many instructors assign these for extra credit. A printable certificate is generated when you successfully complete each module.
You can also find citation help under this section. NoodleTools is software that helps you create MLA, APA or Chicago/Turabian citations styles by walking you through the process. It’s easy, and it’s free for students, faculty and staff at NVC.
Library Services: Need a reserve textbook, want to know how many DVDs you can checkout or wonder how the Reference Librarians can help you with assignments? Find more information about each of the service desks located in the library and what they have to offer you.
On the right side of the page you will find:
Frequently Asked Questions: The library has a FAQ database that you can access by clicking the “Got Questions” button. You can search through previously asked questions or submit your own.
Library Hours: Sometimes our hours of operation change. To find out what our current hours are you can look here.
Library Events: Throughout the semester the library will host several events including interactive displays, author talks, book signings, contests and more. You can use the Calendar of Events link to look at upcoming events.
Comments/Suggestions: We want to hear from you! Let us know how we are doing, request a book or suggest an event by using the Comment/Suggestion link.
Contact Information: You can contact the library several ways: phone, text, email, Facebook, through our blog or by visiting us in the Redbud Learning Center.
